What Does it Mean to Be a Citizen of the World?
When I checked in at my hotel the other day, the attendant behind the desk asked me where I was from. I said, “America, but I live in Vietnam”. Then he said something in passing, like a joke, that got me thinking. He said, “Oh, so you are a citizen of the world then”? With a smile, I said, “lol, I guess so”, and moved on.
It took some time to process what he said, what that meant… Later that night, when walking along the port in Thessaloniki, Greece, I got to thinking… What Does it Mean to Be a Citizen of the World?

We live in a globalized society, which means that it’s impossible not to be exposed to other cultures, languages, foods, arts, and customs. But this can also lead some people to feel like they don’t belong anywhere or have any sense of identity.
But by learning about other cultures and respecting those who come from different places, you can establish a sense of community with people all around the world. And you will be able to find your own place in this diverse but united world too.
